Pat Shurmur is an American football coach with extensive experience in the National Football League (NFL). Born on April 14, 1965, in Dearborn, Michigan, Shurmur has held various coaching positions over his career. He played college football as a linebacker and offensive lineman at Michigan State University.
Shurmur began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Michigan State in the late 1980s before transitioning to several other coaching roles in college football. He eventually entered the NFL, where he has served in numerous capacities, including offensive coordinator and head coach.
He is perhaps best known for his time as the head coach of the Cleveland Browns from 2011 to 2012 and the New York Giants from 2018 to 2019. His most successful stint as an offensive coordinator was with the Vikings from 2016 to 2017, during which the team reached the NFC Championship Game.
